Offense

Jets QB Mark Sanchez registered a 123.2 passer rating in the first half after completing nine-of-13 pass attempts with one touchdown and no interceptions. His first half was highlighted by a 25-yard touchdown pass to WR Chaz Schilens and a 32-yard pass to WR Jeremy Kerley. Sanchez finished the game 15-of-20 with a touchdown, no interceptions and 178 yards for a passer rating of 118.3.

WR Chaz Schilens hauled in a 25-yard pass from Sanchez to give New York a 10-7 lead over St. Louis with 4:37 left to play in the second quarter. It is the second touchdown reception by Schilens in the past three games, he caught his first as a Jet vs. MIA (10/28).

Entering today’s game, WR Jeremy Kerley averaged 19.8 yards a reception on the road in 2012. In the second quarter, Kerley caught a 32-yard pass to the Rams 40-yard line at the two-minute warning. The reception setup a second K Nick Folk 51-yard field goal and extended the Jets lead to 13-7.

With 14:16 remaining in the fourth quarter RB Bilal Powell carried the ball five-yards for his first career touchdown. The score capped a 12-play, 63-yard, 6:58 drive. Powell recorded the second touchdown of his career later in the quarter when he carried the ball 11-yards to give the Jets a 27-7 lead.

Defense

New York’s defense forced two turnovers in the first half for the second consecutive week when S Eric Smith jumped in front of a Sam Bradford pass and DE Muhammad Wilkerson registered a strip-sack of Bradford. The defense finished the game with three take-aways after S LaRon Landry forced a fumble by RB Daryl Richardson in the fourth quarter; it is his second forced fumble of the season. The fumble was recovered by LB Garrett McIntyre. The defense has tallied six takeaways in the last two games.

S Eric Smith recorded his first interception since 9/18/11 vs. JAX when he stepped in front of a SL QB Sam Bradford pass in the second quarter. It is the sixth interception of his career.

DE Muhammad Wilkerson recorded his second sack of the season and third forced fumble when he broke around the edge to strip-sack Bradford. The fumble was recovered by LB Bart Scott and returned 38 yards to Rams 28-yard line. The play setup a 25-yard touchdown pass from Sanchez to Schilens to give the Jets a 10-7 lead in the second quarter.

Prior to today’s game, Wilkerson had registered 33 tackles, one sack, three passes defensed, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery returned 21-yards for a touchdown in his last four games.

Special Teams

K Nick Folk connected on two 51-yard field goals in the first half.
